I love Father’s Day. I love celebrating my dad, and I love being celebrated by my wife and our three kiddos. Being a father is one of the greatest joys of my life.
If you’re like me and have a loving father to celebrate this year, allow your heart to be filled with gratitude as you realize just how fortunate you are. If you are a father that is being celebrated, resolve to love your kids with every fiber of your being. Love them deeply, sacrificially, and unconditionally. And then resolve to be a father-figure for someone without one. In the course of your life, find a young man or young woman who needs a confidant, an unconditional ally, a guiding light in troubled times, and be there for them.
In this day and age, there are as many sons and daughters who mourn on Father’s Day as there are who celebrate. I spend a lot of time with those kids. Those beautiful boys and girls, who have never known the love of a father, or have never known a father at all. In the case of Rescue:Freedom, they are children born into brothels to mothers who were trafficked for sex. Father’s Day is not just a reminder of what they do not have, it is a reminder of the exploitation that brought them into the world. Their father was an unknown exploiter. A shadow in the night.
To all the fatherless kids living in Rescue:Freedom homes around the world, know that you are loved and that we will fight with you and beside you every day. We will fight for you, like a loving father would fight for his kids. We are all children of one Heavenly Father, and that makes us family. And this Father’s Day, we remember you too.
